Matchday Player Amount Change
September 19th, 2019
We’re getting closer to announcing our 2020 VNSL squad, and there are exciting times ahead for us at London Pulse. But there have been some changes made to squad sizes across the SuperLeague this season.
The full squad remains at 15 players, so at the start of the season each team can name 15 athletes to their squad. This is the same as last year and hasn’t changed. The change comes for match day. Until now, each team has named a 12-strong matchday squad, but now that number has reduced to just 10. During the match, there will be 7 on court and 3 on the bench. This will bring the SuperLeague in line with the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia.
The matchday squad can change for each game and the Head Coach can select any of the 15 named players for the matchday squad. The only thing that has really changed is the amount of substitutes on the bench during the match. Some people argue against this as they say it puts more pressure on the players; but on the other hand some may argue that some players spend the entire season on the bench and that is unfair on them, so the new rule gives them a bigger chance to play and gain more court time.
